The Texas Department of Transportation's Atlanta District has earned the Texas Bluebonnet Safety Award in recognition of its exceptional safety record. The district distinguished itself by successfully reducing employee incident rates to zero, a notable achievement when compared to other similar agencies across the state.
In a year without injuries, incidents, or lost time, the Atlanta District has embodied TxDOT's Mission Zero initiative. This initiative focuses on ensuring employees work injury-free by encouraging each member to prioritize safety in their daily tasks, communicate safe practices, identify and address risks, and even halt operations if safety is at risk.
Atlanta District Engineer Rebecca Wells articulated the district's commitment to safety in a statement where she emphasized, "Safety is our mission each and every day at work." Wells further detailed that attaining zero incidents "is our expectation and our goal every single year as we carry out our extensive workload," in a statement obtained by TxDOT.
The Atlanta District's performance within TxDOT has set a standard, as they completed the year 2024 without any safety incidents. Their approach aligns with the agency’s Mission Zero initiative, focusing on minimizing risks and ensuring the safety of their workforce.
