An early morning commute turned precarious for two drivers in Miami-Dade, as their respective vehicles met an unexpected end in the waters of local canals. In two separate incidents, first responders were called to the scene of these submerged vehicle emergencies.
The first incident unfolded in Medley, where WSVN reported that a car had plunged into a canal near South River Drive at Northwest 105th Way just before 5 a.m. today. Medley Police officials arrived to find the driver swimming to safety. The individual was subsequently transported to an area hospital, the extent of those injuries, remains unknown. The car was eventually pulled from the canal, but the accident caused road closures, disrupting traffic in the morning.
In a coincidental and near-synchronous occurrence, another driver crashed a vehicle into a canal along West Okeechobee Road. As Local 10 News covered, this incident took place this morning, where aerial footage captured the aftermath and crews hoisting the white vehicle from aquatic depths. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed that this driver managed to escape the vehicle before the authorities arrived and, fortuitously, no one required hospitalization.
The cause of these crashes is currently under investigation, with no further details released on what prompted the drivers' aquatic detours.
