Authorities have recently issued a crime alert following the theft of two electric scooters from campus grounds. According to a social media post by the University of North Texas Police Department, the scooters, classified as motor vehicles under the Clery Act, were secured with cable locks but fell prey to theft.

The first incident occurred last Tuesday when a scooter was stolen from the bicycle rack in front of Crumley Hall. The second scooter was stolen from the rack between the Business Leadership Building (BLB) and Eagle Landing between last Thursday and Saturday. UNT authorities urgently need anyone with information about these offenses to step forward. They have provided contact details for the UNT Criminal Investigative Services and an anonymous tips line.

In response to these incidents, the Police Department has suggested a set of safety precautions for electric scooter owners on campus. They recommend using a high-security U-lock over cable locks to better secure scooters and attaching a GPS tracker to help recover the vehicle in case it is stolen. Additionally, they emphasize the importance of immediately reporting any suspicious or dangerous activity by dialing or texting 911.

If you have any information about the thefts, contact UNT Criminal Investigative Services at 940-565-3006 or the anonymous tip line at 940-369-TIPS (8477).
