A 34-year-old man from University Park, Illinois, has been charged with a felony count of vehicular hijacking and aggravated battery in a public place. The suspect, identified as Robert Edwards, was apprehended by the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force on February 10, 2025, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Authorities report that Edwards forcefully took a vehicle and battered a 50-year-old man on September 2, 2024, in the 7300 block of S Dante Ave in the city's 3rd District. The incident has since led the police to thoroughly investigate and eventually pinpoint Edwards as the offender, who was later captured in the 800 block of S. Burnham Dr.
The detention hearing for Edwards is scheduled for tomorrow at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The Chicago Police Department's official release provided limited details regarding the circumstances of the arrest or the condition of the victim post-assault.
