Motorists in Pima County should prepare for a series of roadworks that are set to impact traffic on several key routes. From Monday, March 3, through Friday, May 16, the Pima County Department of Transportation and Tucson Asphalt Contractors will be carrying out essential road maintenance works. This will occur daily between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Pima County's announcement delineated the affected stretches as Silverbell Road from Trico Road to east of Kalama Circle, Silverbell Road from Trico Road to Cocio Road, and Clayton Road from Avra Valley Road to Twin Peaks Road. The scope of the roadworks includes various stages ranging from setting up traffic controls and utility work to asphalt removal, grading, paving, and finally, pavement marking.
Given the restricted work area, turn movements within the project limits may be restricted, potentially causing minor delays and occasional lane closures. Flaggers and pilot car operations will be present to guide traffic through these zones. Commuters are advised to exercise caution, be mindful of all traffic control devices, and allocate additional time for their journeys.
In light of the dynamic nature of construction, mechanical failures or adverse weather conditions may alter the schedule. Last year, in Fiscal Year 2024/2025, the Pima County Board of Supervisors and Transportation Department earmarked $24 million towards road repair and preservation initiatives as part of their commitment to infrastructure maintenance. Further information about these projects can be accessed on Pima County's Road Pavement Repair & Preservation Program page.
