The University of Texas at El Paso is buzzing with a record number of students this spring, boasting a headcount that has reached an all-time high. According to UTEP, the institution has enrolled 23,861 students for the spring 2025 semester. The figure indicates a 5% uptick from the previous year, a sign of UTEP's growing influence as an educational hub.
A key factor in UTEP's enrollment growth is its undergraduate persistence rate, which has climbed to a record 89%. "These impressive numbers are a testament to our focus on retaining students and supporting them all along the path to getting their degree," UTEP President Heather Wilson said, as obtained by UTEP. Exactly, what this means is that a staggering nearly nine out of every ten undergraduates enrolled in Fall 2024 have returned to continue their academic journey this spring.
Breaking down the numbers further, UTEP's enrollment surge spans various academic programs. Undergraduate sign-ups have increased by 767 students, marking a 4.1% growth. Notably, there's been a 12.1% jump in new undergraduates, which includes 85 more transfer students. The university's graduate programs aren't lagging, either, with a 9.6% increase in master's candidates and a noteworthy 10.5% rise in doctoral students. The enrollment for special professional students has also notched up by 5.6%.
UTEP's evolving strategies in academic advising and retention seem to be paying off, as Amanda Vasquez-Vicario, Ph.D., UTEP's vice president for enrollment management, told UTEP, "Our innovative and comprehensive support services ensure that every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity to graduate and make a positive impact in their community." Programs tailored to students, particularly those at a higher risk of not persisting have equipped them with the necessary resources for success.
