Two separate incidents of cars crashing into buildings rattled a couple of Chicago neighborhoods over the weekend. In Garfield Park, ABC7 reports that a multi-car crash resulted in one vehicle hurtling into a building at the intersection of West Madison and South Pulaski on Sunday. Details of the crash are still under wraps as Chicago police continue their investigation.
In an another event, chaos unfolded in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood when an SUV barreled into a residence, as captured in a cellphone video. According to CBS News Chicago, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the 5700 block of South Natoma Avenue. Witnesses observed the driver and other occupants abandoning the crippled Nissan SUV, scrambling into a second vehicle—a red sedan—before fleeing the scene. One individual, distracted by the gathering crowd, was subsequently taken into custody.
The extent of the damage in the Garfield Park collision remains unknown, with no immediate reports concerning potential injuries or citations. Meanwhile, the Garfield Ridge accident left a palpable mark, the damage to the house exposed after removing the towed SUV revealing a battered facade, where the bricks met the hardest impact and the front window shattered.
Neighbor Megan Jubiter recounted the Garfield Ridge incident's impact, "Once the wrecked car was towed away, it revealed just how severe the damage to the home was" to CBS News Chicago. Authorities continue to delve into the events leading up to these crashes.
