Following a December 2024 shooting that left a Camby neighborhood on edge, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has announced the arrest of 21-year-old Trevon Alvis. According to information released by FOX59, Alvis faces a slew of charges including one count each of attempted murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated battery, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and pointing a firearm at another.
The details of this violent encounter emerged when court documents in Marion County detailed that the sale of a gun had turned violent. Alvis, now charged with the additional crime of criminal mischief damage, triggers a reminder of the dangers inherent in online transactions. "The shooting is a reminder that online transactions should be completed in a well-lit area, preferably during the daytime, with other people around," said an IMPD spokesperson in a statement obtained by WTHR.
As a measure to enhance safety, IMPD also recommends completing sales at their Southeast District headquarters located at 1150 S. Shelby St. in Fountain Square, which is covered by cameras for added security. They highlight this option as an alternative to less secure environments where buyers and sellers typically meet to finalize online deals.
With the charges ranging from a Level 1 felony for attempted murder to a Level 6 felony for pointing a firearm, the case highlights the severe legal repercussions that violent crimes can carry.
