Violence intersected the everyday commute of Chicagoans on Thursday when a 21-year-old became the victim of a shooting while boarding a CTA bus. As reported by ABC 7 Chicago, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. near East 79th Street and South Drexel Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. The aforementioned young individual was swiftly transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were listed as stable.
Information about the shooter or their motivations was not immediately provided by authorities. According to WGN-TV, the shooting took place not on the bus itself, but just outside as the victim was about to step aboard.
SkyCam9 captured footage of the aftermath as the police cordoned off the area.
On social media, the CTA informed passengers that buses on 79th are rerouted in both directions via Cottage Grove Avenue, 76th Street, and Stony Island Avenue, before resuming their normal route.
