Arizonans are set to celebrate a historic anniversary with a special event at the state capitol. Secretary of State Adrian Fontes is orchestrating "Two Lights for Tomorrow," a public celebration to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s famed ride. Set for April 18, the program marks the start of Arizona's participation in the nationwide America250 initiative.
In a recent announcement, Secretary Fontes emphasized the symbolic connection between past and present struggles for American democracy. "Arizona’s story is America’s story," he said. "Democracy survives when people are willing to carry its message forward. Just as lanterns lit the way in 1775, we must be the ones to shine that light today." The night will not only honor history but also modern-day heroes, including military veterans and Native American cultures, as per Arizona Secretary of State.
The event-packed evening includes a diverse range of activities, from a ceremonial F-16 flyover to cultural performances by Yellow Bird Productions, and live music featuring TSgt Lisa Cimino from the 161st Air National Guard, the 108th Army Band, and the Phoenix Symphony. Attendees can also enjoy food trucks, and interactive exhibits, and the Arizona America250 Commission will provide giveaways to the first 250 guests.
Festivities kick off at Arizona’s Liberty Bell Monument where the highlight of the evening will be the beacon illumination, symbolizing the lanterns from 1775. "Gather at Arizona's Liberty Bell Monument to watch history come alive. After sunset, two beacons will illuminate the sky in tribute to the lanterns that signaled the beginning of America’s fight for freedom 250 years ago," stated the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office. Admission is free, making it accessible for everyone to join in on the recognition of this milestone anniversary.
The "Two Lights for Tomorrow" event details are as follows: It will take place on Friday, April 18, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM at 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007. Arizonans and visitors alike are invited to be part of this historic commemoration.
