An Ashland man is facing charges involving the possession and distribution of child pornography after a coordinated effort led to his arrest last Thursday. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Ashland Police Chief Cara Rossi announced that the Ashland Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit, alongside collaborators from the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Metrowest Drug Taskforce, executed a search and arrest warrant at the suspect's home on Spyglass Hill, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
Investigators have named 47-year-old Michael R. Ciccolella as the individual taken into custody after a months-long investigation. Ciccolella, whose employment with the Needham Public Schools adds a disturbing layer to the charges against him, allegedly used messaging applications such as Media Lab/Kik to view and share sexually explicit materials involving minors ranging from three to twelve years old. This comes according to a detailed report released by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, with Ciccolella now charged with multiple counts including possession of child pornography and distribution of material depicting a nude child.
In an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the search of Ciccolella's residence led to the seizure of numerous items that will undergo further analysis as the active investigation continues. The weight of evidence against him prompted Framingham District Court Judge Michael Callahan to set a high bail at $500,000, with strict conditions: "defend-ant held on $500,000 bail and ordered him to have no unsupervised contact with children under 18, not to use the internet and to submit to home confinement with a GPS monitoring device." Authorities seized multiple pieces of evidence during the search for further analysis. The investigation is still active and ongoing.
