Heads up, Baton Rouge drivers: expect a detour or two on your commute early next week. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced road closures for utility work that will impact the I-10 East and West bound ramps at Acadian.
Specifically, if you're heading westbound on I-10, the Acadian Off Ramp will be off-limits both Tuesday, March 18, and Wednesday, March 19, from 9 AM to 3 PM. Drivers attempting to enter onto I-10 East via the Acadian On Ramp will hit the same roadblock—the closure runs concurrently with the westbound off-ramp shutdown during those times.
The reason behind this temporary inconvenience? Utility relocation is a necessary step as the city continues to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure. While this might slow down your day, it's all in aid of keeping the wheels turning smoothly in the long run. Just remember, alternate routes will be your friend.
As for those who find themselves at the mercy of unpredictable weather, take note that these closures are subject to change if the skies decide to open up. The DOTD's friendly reminder to please drive with caution through the work zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment is especially poignant if the heavens decide to rain on this parade of progress.
