According to the Chicago Police Department's community alert, the victim was crossing the street at the intersection of North Avenue and Lotus Avenue when struck by a gray sedan. The car, identified as possibly a Hyundai Sonata from between 2007 and 2010, fled the scene after the collision, continuing westbound on North Ave.
Details of the incident, which occurred on February 24, 2025, reveal the time of the accident to have been at 7:58 p.m., on the 5400 block of W. North Ave. The vehicle is said to be missing its driver-side mirror, and it may also bear front-end damage on the driver side. Efforts to thoroughly investigate and bring the offender to justice are ongoing, with the police appealing to the public for assistance. They've advised anyone in possession of video surveillance footage from around the time of the incident to securely save a copy for detective review.
