In a gesture of remembrance and honor, Boone County has christened a stretch of Indiana's I-65 as the Deputy Jacob Pickett Memorial Mile. The Boone County Indiana Sheriff's Office announced that Resolution SC0013 had passed unanimously through the House hearing committee, having previously cleared the Senate. This section of the interstate, spanning mile markers 137 to 138, stands as a tribute to Deputy Pickett, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community.
The resolution's passage was met with gratitude by Boone County officials. "We extend our deepest gratitude to Senators Buchanan and Ford, as well as Representative Genda, for their unwavering support in making this tribute a reality," as per the Boone County Indiana Sheriff's Office in a Facebook post. The Sheriff's office, passing through the dedication of honoring Deputy Pickett, shared that additional information regarding a dedication event would be forthcoming. Despite the solemn nature of the occasion, Deputy Pickett's legacy is cemented now, physically marking the Boone County landscape.
Deputy Jacob Pickett's service to Boone County is remembered fondly by those he protected. The outpouring of support for the resolution reflects the community's desire to memorialize their fallen law enforcement officer. The official designation of this highway segment serves not only as a memorial for a respected deputy but also as a physical reminder for drivers traveling through Boone County of the thin blue line safeguarding their daily lives.
With the final legislative hurdles now cleared, Boone County prepares to officially dedicate the memorial mile. "Deputy Pickett’s memory will forever remain a part of Boone County and the community he served," the Sheriff's Office proclaimed via Facebook.
