Travelers in St. Tammany Parish should prepare for a full road closure due to bridge construction beginning Friday, April 4, 2025. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that both eastbound and westbound lanes of US 190 BUS, as well as northbound and southbound lanes of LA 21 (E. Boston St.), will be shut down from 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM the following morning. The closure is to accommodate bridge construction, and it's expected to impact traffic in the area significantly.
The specified stretch undergoing construction includes the area from the intersection of US 190 Bus. (Claiborne Sq.) at mile post 10.031, to the US 190 On-Ramp West Side of US 190 Bogue Falaya Bridge at mile post 9.885. Detours have been outlined to re-route vehicles around the construction zone. Motorists traveling eastbound on US 190 Bus./LA 21 are to follow a designated detour that will have them temporarily reroute onto US 190, then northbound on US 190 Bus. (Claiborne Sq.), before resuming their eastward journey on US 190 Bus./LA 21 (E. Boston St.). Westbound travelers will need to essentially reverse this route. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises to allow for additional travel time and to be mindful of construction crews in the area.
The full closure will restrict all vehicular and emergency access beneath the US 190 Bogue Falaya River Bridge on US 190 Bus./LA 21 (E. Boston St.), a critical point for local commuters. The duration of this closure, as outlined by Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, is intended to minimize disruption by limiting construction to overnight hours.
Residents and daily commuters are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and become familiar with the detour routes prior to the closure. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has provided detailed detour descriptions, which include alternate routes along US 190 (Tammany Pkwy.) and I-12 for westbound travelers.
