Commuters in Calcasieu Parish should prepare for some overnight disruptions as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a series of closures on the I-10 Westbound. Scheduled for the night of Monday, March 31, disruption to the usual flow of traffic will start at 8 p.m. and is expected to last until the early hours of 5 a.m. the following day, as reported by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
This roadwork will specifically affect the right lane of I-10 Westbound, right before the bridge over the Calcasieu River, and the full ramp closure of Exit 27 leading to LA 378, also known as Sampson Street. Motorists who intend to make their way to LA 378 will need to follow a dotted detour, continuing on the I-10 Westbound to exit onto US 90. From there they'll need to take a slight detour via PPG Drive to get back onto the I-10 Eastbound and continue to Exit 27, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
The reason behind this temporary inconvenience is a necessary mill and overlay work to maintain and improve the roadway quality. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has affirmed that these procedures are crucial for ensuring the longevity and safety of this stretch of highway. "These closures are necessary for mill and overlay procedures in the areas stated above," reads the notice from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development website.
While commuters might have to plan around these disruptions, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development underscores the importance of safety during this time. Travelers should be vigilant for crews and their equipment. Area residents are advised to use extra caution if navigating near the construction zones. "DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development notice states. Keep in mind, the smoothing out of the roads comes with the temporary roughing up of our routines.
