Good news for Carroll County and the city of Delphi: they've just been awarded a hefty sum for road and bridge improvements, thanks to Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG). The recent announcement from State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) reveals nearly $3 million heading their way, as reported by Indiana Senate Republicans.
In the latest funding round Carroll County got $1,449,506.25 on its plate and not to be left behind, Delphi snagged a cool $1.5 million; these funds are earmarked to enhance local infrastructure, which is critical for safety and to entice economic ventures. "Well-maintained roads and bridges are important to keeping Hoosiers safe and attracting new economic opportunities," Alting said, praising the local authorities for their initiative to leverage this grant program "to help fund important road and bridge projects for our communities," as detailed by Indiana Senate Republicans.
Launched by the Indiana General Assembly back in 2016, the CCMG program has now directed over $2 billion in state matching funds towards local construction efforts across the state. The program operates on a matching scheme, aligning state contributions with local investments to reinforce the local transport grid. According to the rules set by the Indiana Department of Transportation, less populated counties and towns can receive up to a 75% state match for their investment while their more populous counterparts are eligible for a 50% match.
It’s a clear green light for development in Carroll County and Delphi, who are now poised to tackle pending roadworks that can pave the way for better transportation, potentially longer-lasting infrastructure, and hopefully a smoother ride for residents and businesses alike. These grants represent more than just monetary support; they are testimony of a committed partnership between state and local entities, working hand in hand to improve the connectivity and structural resilience of Hoosier communities, that need to rise up and step up their game in keeping with the progress that such funding can achieve.
