The Charenton Bridge, a key transit point over Baldwin Canal on La. 182 (Main Street), is scheduled for a temporary closure. According to a recent announcement by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the bridge between Yokley Road and Newman Street in St. Mary Parish will be closed for routine inspections. The disruption, which the weather might affect, is expected on Tuesday, March 25, with the hours set from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Local motorists who usually traverse this route will need to plan alternative paths. As a detour, they will be directed along La. 83, U.S. 90, and La. 3211. In a move that seeks to minimize inconvenience, the DOTD has laid out this route as the official detour. The inspection, essential for ensuring the longevity and safety of the bridge infrastructure, has spurred the need for this road closure, as stated by the DOTD.
Patience is requested from the community during this brief but crucial closure. The DOTD takes the opportunity to remind the public to "please drive with caution and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment." The work crews on site, executing their duties, are indeed vulnerable without the cooperation and attentiveness of passing drivers.
