
Authorities have arrested and charged a 41-year-old man, Johnell Smith, in connection to the shooting death of a 53-year-old male and the attempted murder of a 39-year-old male that occurred last July in Chicago's West Side. The incident took place in the 4900 block of W. Madison, within the jurisdiction of the 15th District.
According to the information provided by the Chicago Police Department on their official website, Smith was apprehended on Tuesday by the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. His arrest took place in the 400 block of N. Hillside Ave, Hillside, Illinois. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
A statement from the Chicago Police details the alleged engagement, where Smith fatally shot the 53-year-old victim and also shot the 39-year-old man, who survived the attack. Details surrounding the motive and circumstances of the shooting have not been disclosed at this time.
Smith's detention hearing is scheduled for today at the Courthouse located at 2600 S. California.
