
Chicago police announced the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection with the June 2024 slaying of a 19-year-old woman in the city's South Side. The accused, Elijah Stiffened, from the 400 block of W. 66th St., is facing one felony count of first-degree murder and two felony counts of attempted murder in the first degree, according to information released on the Chicago Police Department's website.
Police took Stiffened into custody on March 3, 2025, near S. California Ave., following investigation efforts that led to his identification as the suspect in the lethal shooting on June 11, 2024, in the 800 block of W. Garfield Blvd. The victims were within a vehicle, with two other 19-year-old females escaping injury. Stiffened's detention hearing is scheduled for today at the courthouse at 2600 S. California.
While the specifics of the case remain under investigation, the charges signal the severity with which the authorities are taking the case. The Chicago Police Department has not provided additional details beyond the charges and the arrest.
