Residents of Bucktown, Logan Square, and West Town have been put on high alert after a series of armed robberies in the area. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, multiple incidents have occurred involving masked assailants brandishing handguns and demanding property from victims. These thefts have been reported broadly within the 012th (Near West), 014th (Shakespeare), and 025th (Grand Central) Districts.

The alert specifies that the offenders have used a modus operandi involving stolen vehicles, including a grey Hyundai Sonata, a black Hyundai Elantra, a blue Kia Sportage, and a grey Kia Optima, to approach and flee from the crime scenes. The crimes took place in broad daylight as well as during the night, with reports from February 17 to as recent as March 11, 2025. The locations and times of these incidents were detailed in the police notification, pinpointing their occurrence across multiple blocks and avenues across the neighborhoods.

Descriptions of the offenders include two to five males, possibly a combination of Black males and White Hispanic males, ages ranging from 16 to 30, all donning black ski masks and mostly dark-colored clothing. In light of these events, local authorities are urging the community to take precautionary measures. Citizens are advised to stay vigilant of their surroundings, walk in groups whenever possible, avoid carrying large sums of money, and refrain from engaging with the assailants.

Additional safety recommendations encourage residents to park in well-lit and populated areas. In the event of a crime, witnesses or victims are urged to call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any offenders or vehicles involved. "Do not try to rationalize with, run away from, or confront the offenders," the alert cautions.
