The crimes have been occurring in the late hours, with perpetrators targeting individuals as they leave local taverns and wait for rideshare services. A distinct pattern of aggression has been noted, where offenders either display handguns or employ brute force to obtain victims' belongings, which include mobile phones that hold sensitive banking information.
These incidents have been clustered around specific areas, with multiple occurrences on the 3500 block of N. Clark Street and other nearby locations in January and February. The Chicago Police Department's notice, published yesterday, includes detailed descriptions of the incidents and offenders. As cited by the official release, the offenders are reportedly 3 to 4 African American males between the ages of 16 and 25.
