Residents of the Garfield Ridge neighborhood in Chicago’s 8th District are grappling with a string of burglaries targeting motor vehicles. According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, several parked cars had their windows shattered and belongings stolen in the early hours of a single morning.
The incidents, which occurred between 3:40 and 4:00 a.m. yesterday, were concentrated in a small area along the 5600 block of S. Normandy and the 5700 blocks of S. Neenah and S. Natoma, as detailed by the CPD. Authorities described the suspects as four males, clad in dark clothing and masks, driving a newer white Nissan sedan. In ongoing investigations, these events add a layer of tension to the community's sense of security.
As police urge the public to take precautions, they offer several tips for vehicle safety. These include not leaving keys in the vehicle or allowing it to run unattended and ensuring doors and windows are securely locked. Vigilance for suspicious activity, especially individuals loitering with no clear purpose, is paramount. In case of any dubious presence, residents are advised to "Immediately call -911 and provide a detailed description of the offender(s), including any vehicle description and license plate information," as stated by the Chicago Police Department.
