In a recent development that has meat snack fans double-checking their pantries, Chomps has initiated a recall of its beef and turkey sticks. The recall was announced after two consumers found metal fragments in their beef sticks. The products in question, nearly 30,000 pounds worth, were shipped to stores in California and Illinois, as per CBS News.
The recall specifically targets the 1.15-ounce "Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild" and 1.15-ounce "Original Turkey Stick" singles that may contain the dangerous fragments. The beef stick lot in question holds an expiration date of Feb. 10, 2026, and bears lot code 25016, as detailed by CBS News.
Amidst growing concerns for consumer safety, both Chomps and the FSIS have not reported any injuries related to the recall. However, due to the nature of the contamination, they are taking proactive measures to prevent any potential harm. Chomps, on its website, has communicated its commitment to consumer safety, saying, "Our consumers are, and always will be, our number one priority," NBC Chicago reported.
For those in possession of the affected meat sticks, produced between January 13 and January 15, 2025, the FSIS urges a thorough check of the package for the establishment number "6220A". With concerns mounting, the USDA recommends that consumers err on the side of caution by disposing of the product or returning it to the store of purchase, as noted by CBS News. Consumers seeking more information can contact Chomps at 855-636-1150 or Idaho Smokehouse Partners at 208-227-5282.
