The City of Carmel is stepping into the limelight for streamlining sustainability in its fleet operations. Recently decorated with the 2025 Geotab® Innovation Award for Fleet Sustainability, Carmel's Street Department is being applauded for its savvy use of connected vehicle tech. The prize, which focuses on small to medium public sectors, is not just a trophy on the shelf but a testament to the city's commitment to serving its community through innovative data insights.
In a statement obtained by the City of Carmel, Jason Armes, who supervises Carmel's Street Department fleet, took a moment to elaborate on the gains of this tech integration. "Using technology from Geotab and their reseller Argos Connected Solutions, the City of Carmel Street Department has created a platform that allows us to see real time data in each of our vehicles. Fuel mileage, CO2 emissions, engine fault codes, seat belt usage and route completion mapping for winter operations and street sweeping are just a few of the things that we use Geotab for," said Armes. Bringing a spotlight to the multifaceted prize, the award recognizes the city's strides in keeping both drivers safe and the air cleaner with their Biodiesel initiative.
The Geotab Innovation Awards are more than an annual nod to progress—they’re a showcase of how data insights can revolutionize fleet performance, costs, and efficiency. Awards recipients like Carmel are chosen based on a rigorous data-driven scoring methodology. This approach benchmarks their implementation, performance, and the overall impact against their peers.
Notably, the accolades were delivered at this year's Geotab Connect event in Orlando. An affair that brings the fleet industry together around topics such as connected vehicles, data intelligence, AI, and, you guessed it – sustainability.
