A recent strong-arm robbery on a Green Line train in the Austin neighborhood has prompted a community alert from local law enforcement. According to the Chicago Police Department, last Wednesday, at around 1 p.m., a victim traveling westbound was subjected to a robbery after the offender, described with ambiguity, gave the victim "suspicious looks" before blocking his attempt to switch cars and demanding his property.
The confrontation escalated to the point where the robber threatened violence and succeeded in taking the victim's belongings, subsequently fleeing on foot when the train arrived at the station on the 4800 block of W. Lake Street; the authorities have since been on the lookout for the suspect and are canvassing the area for leads. The department urges riders to "Always be aware of your surroundings" and to "Dial 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity immediately," urging people to refrain from chasing after potential assailants.
The Chicago Police Department is now seeking assistance from the public to identify and locate the offender, photographs of whom have been circulated on their website and social media.
