The Greenfield Police Department was engaged in a search for a missing 11-year-old boy who had run away from home, authorities appealed to the public on Wednesday. According to a post on social media by the police department, the boy had last been seen around 4 p.m. near a Walmart in the Greenfield Crossing neighborhood. Described as an 11-year-old Black boy, he was reported to quickly put on an orange hooded sweatshirt, green and white socks, and was carrying a red duffle bag at the time of his disappearance, FOX59 reported.
Concerns grew swiftly as the community and law enforcement came together to search for the child. The search was rooted not just in the urgency of a missing minor but was emotionally charged by the vulnerability that comes with any child separated from their sanctum of home and safety. The day's tension was palpably replaced by relief as news broke that the boy was located and found to be safe. WRTV confirmed the boy's safe return but provided no further details on the circumstances surrounding his disappearance or discovery.
Greenfield Police have not released any additional information about where the boy was found or the state he was in when discovered.
