A 46-year-old woman from Connecticut was shot in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood on Sunday evening while walking with her 11-year-old son, authorities said. The incident occurred near the AMC River East 21 movie theater at approximately 8:12 p.m. as the woman, identified only by her age, heard gunshots and discovered she had been struck in the arm, described CBS News Chicago.

The shooting took place while the mother and son were waiting to cross the street at the corner of Illinois Street and Columbus Drive after leaving a pizza restaurant. According to a police report noted by the Chicago Sun-Times, the woman said "she heard two gunshots and saw feathers flying around from her coat and felt a sharp pain in her right forearm." Amidst the chaos, she and her son fled south across the river to Wacker and Columbus drives, where they sought help from a passerby who, along with her son, called 911, before the woman's transport to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was listed in good condition despite the circumstance.

The Chicago Police were already on scene for a reported "battery in progress" when the shooting occurred outside the theater located at 322 E. Illinois St. Officials collected six fired shell casings from nearby 342 E. Illinois St., and they are now examining security footage that possibly identifies a person of interest, a man clothed in a red hooded sweatshirt with long dreadlocks and distinct white and black shoes.

As of late Sunday, no arrests had been made in connection to the shooting; however, Area 3 detectives are actively investigating the case as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, they are reviewing additional footage from AMC security which may shed more light on the situation and the yet unidentified person of interest who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and had long dreadlocks.
