Last Tuesday night, a fire ravaged a multi-family home in Dorchester, leading to the displacement of seven people and the tragic death of a dog. The Boston 25 News reported that the fire began around 7:30 p.m. on Bruce Street. The Boston Fire Department estimates damages at approximately $600,000. As the flames worked their way up from the basement through to the attic, the entire structure was quickly compromised.

Making matters worse, nearby power lines created significant difficulties for firefighters struggling to control the fire. According to a post on X by the Boston Fire Department, Deputy Chief Gerard Viola explained to the media that a third-alarm response was necessary due to these challenges. The residents have since been assisted by the local Red Cross. As the community grapples with the aftermath, the cause of the fire remains unknown, with further investigation pending.
