A fatal accident early this morning caused the closure of the southbound express lanes on Interstate 95 in Broward County, a major route for commuters. According to NBC Miami, the crash occurred between Broward Boulevard and Interstate 595, with first responders arriving around 5:40 a.m. A yellow tarp covered what appeared to be a body, while a damaged SUV sat nearby with its front windshield shattered and hood crumpled.
The accident has caused significant traffic delays, especially in the southbound lanes. As reported by WSVN, a pedestrian was struck in the area. The express lanes are closed from Broward Boulevard to Oakland Park Boulevard, and a left mainline lane is also blocked, causing delays extending back toward Atlantic Boulevard.
Authorities have not released details about the crash or the identity of the pedestrian. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. Drivers are advised to avoid the express lanes and consider taking the Turnpike to bypass the area.
