A fatal vehicle accident claimed the life of an unidentified individual in Woodstock on Monday, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The single-vehicle crash occurred in the 8200 block of Mason Hill Road at approximately 4:49 p.m.

Upon their arrival, first responders from the Sheriff's Office and Woodstock Fire & Rescue found the car ablaze and upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered the remains of a person inside the vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation suggested that the 2019 Chrysler 300 involved had been traveling westbound on Mason Hill Road west of Cherry Valley Road but failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway, and collided with a tree before it caught fire.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and speed is believed to have been a contributing factor to the tragic incident. The gender of the deceased is presumed male but formal identification is pending further investigation.
