The City of Fishers, known for taking the health and wellbeing of its residents seriously, has recently introduced a new player in its quest for communal wellness—the Aging & Wellness Task Force, aimed at enhancing services for the senior members of the community. According to a statement on the City of Fishers’ website, the task force is set to evaluate current offerings for seniors in Fishers and propose fresh programs and initiatives, which may include a dedicated senior services facility.
Fishers City Councilman Bill Stuart and Dr. Juanita Albright, who is both a local physician and a member of the Hamilton Southeastern Board of Trustees, are leading the task force which comprises residents and care providers, their goal is to assess the existing wellness landscape for seniors and bridge any gaps through community surveys and focus groups. "This initiative demonstrates the City’s commitment to supporting its senior population and ensuring that this demographic has the necessary services, programs, and resources to attain the highest quality of life within Fishers," Stuart and Dr. Albright jointly stated, expressing the task force's readiness to engage seniors in shaping their own quality of life and wellbeing, as per the City of Fishers.
The Aging & Wellness Task Force is part of Fishers' broader Culture of Health initiative which promotes a holistic approach to health and wellness for all citizens. The spark for creating a senior-focused facility originated during planning for the Fishers Community Center, slated to open this fall, with the aim of addressing the needs of a demographic that increasingly chooses Fishers as a retirement destination.
"Over the past few years, we’ve debuted exciting new quality of life amenities for our community, including a world-class event center and art center, new parks, and trails, and more," Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said in statement obtained by the City of Fishers' announcement.
