A 20-year-old man has been indicted for the murder of 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, who was killed in a drive-by shooting at a Fort Lauderdale park. Tyler Hollins faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, according to the Broward State Attorney's Office. WSVN reports that the indictment was handed down on Thursday, following the tragic incident on July 21, last year.
The shooting occurred at Riverland Park while Rylo was attending a child's birthday party. He was playing on a slide when gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle, striking him. Rylo was taken to Broward Health Medical Center but did not survive. NBC Miami reports that more than 20 shots were fired at partygoers.
Hollins has a history of legal issues. In April 2024, he was sentenced to 12 months of community supervision for charges including carrying a concealed firearm and resisting an officer with violence. In May of the same year, he was arrested after a high-speed chase across Miami-Dade and Broward counties following the theft of a BMW, which ended in a collision with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.
After the Riverland Park shooting, Fort Lauderdale Police recovered both vehicles involved: a 2024 red Mercedes-Benz C 300 and a 2017 black Mercedes-Benz C 300. Hollins, also implicated in a grand theft for allegedly stealing a BMW from a Sunny Isles Beach home on Thanksgiving Day, is being held without bond, according to jail records. NBC Miami reports that the FBI had offered a $10,000 reward for information in the case.
