Yesterday, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana joined forces with the TOWER Reentry Program and Invest Hamilton County to host the Second Chance Opportunity and Resource Fair. The acronym TOWER echoes the organization's mission: Transitioning Opportunities for Work, Education, and Reality, with a focus on aiding formerly incarcerated individuals in reintegrating into society. According to a social media post by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the event aimed to establish connections between job seekers and local businesses willing to hire them.
The fair received backing from Invest Hamilton County and Northview Church, which sponsored a catered lunch for the attendees. The initiative was made possible by the collaboration of various local companies. The post by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office detailed that each business shared a common sentiment about their involvement: "they believed in giving everyone a second chance, and if they could make a difference in just one life, they are happy to do it." Among the participants was Gaylor Electric, whose representatives echoed this commitment to offer second chances and potential growth in personal and professional spheres.
The event also included a number of service organizations that engaged with candidates to provide a myriad of transitioning services. From life skills training to mental health, work, and educational services, these organizations played a crucial role in preparing individuals for their future endeavors. The fair not only focused on employment opportunities, but also equipped participants with resources for an all-rounded reentry into society.
Community members took to social media to extend their support for those embarking on this new journey. Brad Stewart expressed on the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, "Congratulations to everyone so very proud of you in making the right decisions to improve your future," as he and Becky Stewart sent forth their prayers and pride.
