
A tragic turn of events unfolded yesterday on Fort Union Boulevard, where a 17-year-old Hillcrest High School student perished in a vehicle collision. According to KUTV, the incident occurred just after 12:45 p.m. when the teen driver swerved to avoid another vehicle, subsequently losing control on the slick roadway and colliding with the rear of a parked semi-truck. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second casualty of the incident, a 19-year-old passenger, suffered critical injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. The stretch of Fort Union Boulevard between 700 East and 900 East was closed as investigations into the crash commenced.
In a statement detailed by KSL, Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race confirmed the timing of the collision to be 12:48 p.m. Midvale Mayor Dustin Gettel expressed his condolences and urged community solidarity in his statement. "Let's come together as a community, lean on one another, and cherish every moment we have with those we love," Gettel stated, emphasizing the importance of appreciating our loved ones.
The Unified Police Department also extended sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased, acknowledging the profound difficulty of their loss. No further information regarding the crashes involving the teens has been released by authorities.
