Guillermo Portuondo, 54, was arrested and is facing serious charges following a fatal hit-and-run incident on Hollywood Beach on New Year's Day, according to Local 10 News. Portuondo is accused of hitting a pedestrian with his Ram 1500 pickup truck and fleeing the scene along North Ocean Drive near Nebraska Street.
As per Local 10 report, the victim, whose identity has not been released, was attempting to cross the road outside a crosswalk around 2:30 a.m. when they were struck and killed. After hitting the pedestrian, Portuondo reportedly "briefly stopped" but then continued driving. A nearby driver captured a photo of Portuondo's license plate, which later helped authorities track him down.
The victim was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour after the incident. Investigators found debris, blood spatter, and a missing headlight lens at the scene, which matched damage found on Portuondo's truck. Police visited his home in the Royal Poinciana neighborhood, where they discovered his truck with damage consistent with a pedestrian impact, including bodily fluids and possible skin fragments. According to the same report, when questioned, Portuondo falsely claimed he had been hit by another vehicle and later contacted a friend named "Danny."
Portuondo's charges include failing to stop at an accident involving death and leaving the scene of a crash with death. He remains in the Broward Main Jail without bond. Portuondo was officially booked and his mugshot and arrest details were made available to the public yesterday, as reported by Broward County Mugshots
