A home health aide in Sunrise, Florida, has been accused of sexually molesting an 86-year-old disabled woman he was hired to care for. Juan Jose Romero Ruiz, 39, faces charges of sexual battery and lewd lascivious molestation of an elderly disabled person following his arrest on Wednesday, NBC Miami reports.
Ruiz, employed by Pembroke Pines-based Lovable Family Home Care, allegedly committed the assault within his first two days on the job. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera inside the victim's home. The victim’s grandson, who lives in Orlando, discovered the disturbing footage during a routine check and immediately informed family members, demanding Ruiz's removal, Local 10 reports.
An immigration hold has been placed on Ruiz, who is currently being held at Broward County Jail without bond while awaiting a court appearance. The victim's family attorney, Anthony Bruno, suggested that the quick action of the accused could indicate that this may not have been his first offense.
Both the Sunrise Police and the home care agency are investigating the incident. Lovable Family Home Care expressed shock and sadness over the situation. They have pledged full cooperation with the investigation, as they strive to provide the best care to their clients.
