Following the unsettling events in Houston this past weekend, police have announced the arrest of one man and are actively searching for another in connection to a shooting at a business located at 6419 Hillcroft Avenue. In the early hours of Sunday morning, six people were injured by gunfire, a situation that now has led to charges of aggravated assault mass shooting being filed.
Jose Miguel Briceno, 25, has been taken into custody and is currently facing charges in the 179th State District Court. According to a news release made by the Houston Police Department, a surveillance photo of a second suspect remains to be identified and is believed to potentially have fled to Mexico. This suspect is described as a Hispanic male, but further details have not yet been disclosed. The community has been urged to assist by contacting either the HPD Major Assaults Division or Crime Stoppers with any information that could help to swiftly apprehend the remaining suspect.
The incident left three males, aged 25, 21, and 43, and one 53-year-old female in critical condition, while a 28-year-old male and a 31-year-old female suffered from non-life threatening injuries. HPD patrol officers, who responded initially to the emergency, found victims suffering from gunshot wounds and quickly coordinated with paramedics to ensure their transportation to local hospitals.
Witness accounts indicate that a male shooter expelled multiple shots into the crowd. "Witnesses stated a male suspect fired multiple shots into the club," as noted by the Houston Police Department. Following investigative efforts, two men, who were seen in a black Toyota Corolla, were identified as suspects. Briceno, subsequently identified as the shooter, was arrested yesterday and is currently held at the Harris County Jail. With one suspect still at large, the authorities are continuing their search efforts and emphasizing the importance of community assistance in this ongoing investigation.
