A land-clearing crew working in Bloomington made a grim find this past Wednesday, unearthing what appeared to be human bones. According to the WISH-TV report, the bones were discovered in a wooded area located in the 1000 block of West Acuff Road, near I-69 and a mile north of the interchange for state roads 45 and 46.
The Bloomington Police Department confirmed that the remains looked human and attended the scene. In a release mentioned by FOX59, officers said "it was determined that the bones did indeed appear to be from a human body." The site quickly became the focus of a forensic investigation. The Monroe County Coroner's Office was also called to join the Bloomington Police Department at the location.
Efforts to analyze the remains have been underway, with a forensic anthropology team from Indianapolis brought in to assist. According to a spokesperson for the Bloomington Police, cited by WTHR, the team joined the investigation yesterday to aid in the recovery of the remains.
The identity of the bones has yet to be determined, as the investigation remains in its early stages. "An identity has not been determined and that the investigation is ongoing," the Bloomington Police Department spokesperson added on WTHR.
