An Illinois federal correctional officer faces charges alleging that he engaged in sexual acts with two inmates. The indictment, filling pages with stark legalese, notes that Danny L. Spyker, a 40-year-old correctional officer from Lanark, found himself at the center of serious accusations regarding events that transpired within the confines of the Federal Correctional Institution in Thomson.
Unsealed on March 5th, the indictment comes after an investigation that seemed to unfold primarily away from the public gaze, detailed by the Department of Justice. Spyker, who has been on administrative leave since June of last year, is contending with the charges that the incidents occurred in December 2023 and March 2024.
Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Morris Pasqual, along with William J. Hannah, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General's Midwest Regional Office, are listed as spearheading the announcement of the formal charges facing the correctional officer.
With the narrative unfolding in court rather than the court of public opinion, Jonathan S. Kim, an assistant U.S. Attorney, takes the helm as the prosecutor. Spyker faces up to 15 years in federal prison for each count he's been indicted on, with sentences to be determined in accordance with federal statutes and guidelines.
