The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a weather forecast warning of scattered showers starting this afternoon with a 30% chance of precipitation. According to the NWS update, residents can expect mostly cloudy skies with the temperature peaking near 74 degrees and south southwest wind blowing at 9 to 14 mph, gusting up to 25 mph. Later tonight, the chance for showers increases to 60%, with rainfall anticipated to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
As the weekend progresses, the weather conditions are forecast to intensify. "Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm," reports the NWS, indicating a nearly certain chance of precipitation at 90%. Tomorrow night will bring more showers and possible thunderstorms before tapering off slightly towards Monday morning. Residents should be prepared to safely navigate potentially heavy rainfall which could accumulate to between half and three quarters of an inch.
The NWS forecast continues with predictions of showers and thunderstorms likely before 11am on Monday, after which the chance of showers diminishes until the evening. With a 60% chance of precipitation, the start of the workweek could still be a wet one, despite the expected drop in temperature to a high near 51 degrees and northwest winds at 10 to 13 mph, and gusts reaching up to 24 mph.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, a break in the showers is expected, providing some respite with mostly sunny skies and a high near 53 degrees. However, clouds and a 30 percent chance of showers will return Tuesday night, foreshadowing a midweek where showers and thunderstorms could become a norm. "Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm," states the NWS, forecasting for Wednesday a high temperature near 72 degrees with a 90% chance of precipitation.
As the week progresses, residents will continue to see a mixed bag of weather with high chances of showers continuing through Thursday and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday.
