A car chase in Catawba County resulted in a crash that injured an infant and two adults yesterday afternoon. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol attempted to pull over 26-year-old Nazir Murice Lucky for speeding on Highway 321, shortly before 2 p.m., according to WBTV. Lucky, however, failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that spanned several miles.
After turning onto Startown Road, Lucky lost control of the Honda Accord, driving off the left side of the road and striking a tree, details QC News. The vehicle, carrying two adults and an infant, was left in a mangled state by a tree after the chase ended. Authorities reported that none of the passengers were secured with seatbelts at the time of the accident.
All occupants of the car, including the infant, were transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. In the wake of the collision, highway patrol confirmed that Lucky and the passengers had been without seatbelts during the ordeal, as noted by WRAL. The chase and resultant crash have resulted in multiple charges against Lucky, encompassing felonies such as reckless driving and misdemeanors like child abuse.
Upon being released from the hospital, Lucky was arrested, facing the consequences of his actions that endangered the lives of his passengers, including an infant deemed by the protective embrace of a seatbelt.
