Kiana Sears will replace Eva Burch in the Arizona State Senate for Legislative District 9 after Burch's resignation. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has voted in favor of Sears, who has nearly 30 years of experience in public service and policy, according to the Maricopa County.
The Maricopa County Board has selected Kiana Sears as their new leader following careful deliberation. Sears, who brings a wealth of experience, previously served on the Mesa Public Schools board for eight years and worked as a research staffer for the Arizona State Senate. "After thoughtful deliberation, the Board selected Kiana Sears because of her exceptional leadership, deep understanding of key issues like water, housing, and education, and a lifelong record of community service," Supervisor Mark Stewart stated in a recent announcement.
Sears holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Public Policy and a Bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Communication from Arizona State University. She has lived in Mesa for over 20 years. Sears was selected from a shortlist by Legislative District 9 precinct committeemen, all of whom had to live in the district and belong to the same political party as the previous legislator. Sears, a Democrat, will serve the remainder of Burch’s term, as reported by the Maricopa County.
