Two individuals are facing charges after a successful sting operation by law enforcement in La Porte County. The bust follows an investigation by the La Porte County Drug Task Force, supported by the Michigan City Police Department SWAT and the Detective Bureau. According to a social media post from the La Porte County Sheriff's Office, the arrests are tied to suspected dealings in controlled substances.
Launching their tactical response on March 12, officers descended upon a residence at 422 Hoyt Street, Michigan City. Stumbling upon a cache of miscellaneous tools, the squad recognized these items as mirroring the description of tools reported absconded with from a Chick-fil-A construction site earlier this year. The recovered property, determined by authorities to be worth around $9,000, has linked the location to a theft incident on January 28.
In the course of these incidents, two suspects, Kyle Fugate and Marisa Meeks, were taken into custody. "FUGATE was arrested for Dealing in a Schedule II Controlled Substance (L3 Felony) and MEEKS was arrested for Dealing in a Schedule II Controlled Substance (L2 Felony)," as reported by the La Porte County Sheriff's Office. With the aid of the LaPorte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, additional warrants led to the search and seizure of evidence at the scene.
The apprehension of Fugate and Meeks underscores an active campaign by the La Porte County Drug Task Force and Michigan City Police Department to suppress narcotics distribution in their jurisdiction. Although charged, both suspects are reminded by officials of their presumption of innocence until proven guilty. As the case moves forward, the emerging details will continue to paint a clearer picture of the operation that led to their arrest.
