A man in Lake County was taken into custody early Saturday after deputies said he chased people with a knife inside a home. According to WGN-TV, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls at around 11:45 p.m. and discovered a chaotic scene where victims were fleeing from the assailant.

The deputies arrived at the 35800 block of North Hillside Avenue, where the situation rapidly unfolded. In a dramatic escape attempt, one individual jumped from a second-story window to evade the attacker and was injured upon hitting the ground, CBS News Chicago reported. Law enforcement forcefully entered the house, locating the suspect, 29-year-old Juan Carranco-Salinas, holding a nine-inch blade and several terrified victims.

Authorities said they ordered Carranco-Salinas to drop the weapon, which he eventually complied with; however, he then attempted to break into a locked bedroom containing several victims. Deputies used a taser to subdue and apprehend the man after he ignored their commands, the sheriff’s office relayed to WGN-TV.

The incident began after a woman rejected Carranco-Salinas's sexual advances and refused his monetary offers for sexual favors, becoming the catalyst for his violent behavior, as noted by CBS News Chicago. After failing to be restrained by others in the house, he armed himself with a kitchen knife and started to chase the occupants. Despite the dangerous circumstances, thankfully, no one was stabbed or seriously injured in the ordeal.

Carranco-Salinas has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and six counts of domestic battery. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail, and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is reportedly seeking to detain him during the court proceedings while he awaits trial, according to information provided by the sheriff's office to WGN-TV.
