
West Valley City Police apprehended a 37-year-old man, Christopher Thomas Kirby, following his attempt to rob a bank using a bomb threat written on a stolen sticky note, authorities reported. As per ABC4, Kirby entered the 1st Utah Bank on 3123 South Redwood Road and handed a note to the teller that stated, "This is a robbery I have a bomb on me that will explode I need 20,000 in a bag." An immediate police response led to his arrest, with officers saying bank employees were "traumatized from Christopher’s actions."
During Kirby's interaction with police, he revealed that his motive for the robbery was to acquire funds for food and clothing, Kirby did confess to officials that he had executed the robbery because he needed essentials, as reported by FOX 13. Additionally, Kirby stated that both the pen and the sticky note employed in the attempted heist were taken from a nearby Dollar General store. He is being held without bail on aggravated robbery charges.
The incident unfolded after a 911 call alerted West Valley City Police to the ongoing robbery, leading to Kirby's swift arrest while still present in the bank's lobby. Security footage confirmed the suspect passing the threatening note to a bank teller, as reported by KJZZ, which added that Kirby selected the bank randomly for his endeavor.
