Miami-Dade County is celebrating the start of sea turtle nesting season with Turtlepalooza on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, hosted by Miami-Dade Parks' Sea Turtle Conservation Program, will take place at Crandon Park Visitor’s & Biscayne Nature Center. The nesting season runs from March through October and is crucial for sea turtle conservation.
According to the Miami-Dade County release, the day will begin with a beach cleanup at 9 a.m., followed by the EcoVillage at 10 a.m., featuring various conservation booths. Additional activities include a live animal presentation, nature hikes, stake painting, and an “All About Sea Turtles” presentation. There will also be a raffle where attendees can adopt-a-nest.
Beyond Turtlepalooza, people can attend sea turtle night releases or observe daytime nest excavations during the summer season.
