A Miami-Dade medical spa owner, Yanelys Fundora Acebo, 44, was arrested for allegedly selling prescription weight loss medications without a valid medical license. According to Local10, she was taken into custody yesterday at her business, X Lash by Yane.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office set up an undercover sting operation after receiving complaints about Fundora Acebo distributing phentermine, a controlled weight loss substance. The arrest report states that investigators were able to easily purchase lollipops containing the drug over the counter at her business. Fundora Acebo is also accused of selling semaglutide and tirzepatide, which are used in drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound.
The X Lash by Yane Instagram page, still active today, advertised these drugs and claimed they could be shipped to the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Videos also showed Fundora Acebo injecting herself with the medications. Local10 reported that the price for a month of semaglutide treatment was $230, and Fundora Acebo appeared in a video on a local Spanish-language TV station.
In addition to prior purchases, an undercover detective allegedly bought 10 more lollipops last Wednesday. Fundora Acebo is reported to have told the detective that she had only 10 left. She was arrested after a search warrant was executed. WSVN confirmed that Acebo is facing charges including practicing medicine without a license, dispensing drugs without a license, and possession of a controlled substance.
Fundora Acebo has since bonded out of jail, with her first court appearance scheduled. The investigation began after undercover operatives were able to buy phentermine lollipops without showing ID or a doctor's prescription. Authorities have determined that she is not licensed to prescribe or dispense medical substances.
