The Miami-Dade County community is mourning the unexpected passing of 15-year-old Belen Jesuit Preparatory School student and water polo player Lucas Osuna. Lucas collapsed during a water polo tournament at Ransom Everglades School on Friday. Despite efforts by parents and referees to perform lifesaving measures, he could not be saved, as reported by Local 10 News.

In a statement to Local 10 News, the Miami Whitecaps Water Polo Club expressed their sorrow: "Lucas Osuna, you will forever be in our hearts. We are going to miss you. An amazing, smart, kind hearted, and hilarious person."

Lucas's father, Mike Osuna, shared the news on Facebook, writing, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the unfathomable loss of our beloved son…” as CBS News Miami reported. Belen Jesuit Preparatory School issued a statement saying: "We are united as a faith community to mourn our brother Lucas Osuna '27 and support his family and one another."

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez also offered condolences, stating, "To the entire Belen community, and especially to Lucas' family and friends, please know that Miami stands with you in this time of unimaginable loss," in a CBS News report.

Arrangements for Lucas Osuna are expected to be announced in the coming days. Both Ransom Everglades and Belen Jesuit Preparatory School have asked for privacy during this difficult time.
