The Miami community is dealing with the aftermath of a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Saturday morning, killing one person and injuring several others. The incident took place at a bus stop in Liberty City, prompting an intense search for the driver responsible.
Authorities are searching for the driver of a Mercedes-Benz, who hit the bus stop at NW 54th Street and 17th Avenue and then fled the scene on foot. CBS News Miami reports that a witness, Diben Ramandiagl, expressed his shock, saying, "The car hit them and flipped over it, as you can see over there, and a lot of people called 911."
Surveillance footage from a nearby Chevron gas station shows the moments leading up to the crash. The video shows the black Mercedes-Benz and a white pickup truck moving together before the Mercedes swerved onto the sidewalk. The crash demolished the bus stop, killing one person and injuring five others, with one in critical condition, according to Local 10 News. Miami Fire Rescue used hydraulic tools to free a person trapped in the Mercedes, and four injured individuals were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
